About this blog

This blog is about books and teaching and parenting and most anything else that crosses my mind that I feel like sharing.

I post a lot of book reviews. Some of these also appear in other places — mostly in Creative Loafing. I also write for the St. Petersburg Times, the Boston Globe, the Orlando Sentinel and American History magazine.

I started this blog when I lived on a small horse farm in North Central Florida, hence its name, The Farm Report. I now live on the water in Cohasset, Massachussetts, so the blog has been rechristened as The Coast Watcher, since I see the lighthouse (pictured in the header) from my bedroom window.

I’ve migrating selected Farm Report posts over to The Coast Watcher. Hope you enjoy reading — and that it leads you to read some of the books I write about in this space.
